Toronto Phoenix in Washington DC!

IMG_9143
Toronto Phoenix was in Washington DC this past weekend for the 69th NACIVT.  Playing on Pennsylvania St. the first two days and then moving indoors on the third, we couldn’t have asked for better weather for a 9man tournament.

The men’s team came third in their pool after the first day of play, successfully qualifying for the gold re-pool on the second day.  After a short second day, they were knocked down to silver flight, just missing the round of 16.  In silver flight playoffs, the men were matched up against the Washington MVP Snapping Turtles.  After Toronto Phoenix took the first set, the Snapping Turtles geared up their serve receive and took a close second set.  With the momentum changed and the pressure on Phoenix to defend, they unfortunately fell short and lost the third set, eliminating them from the tournament.

The women’s team played a strong first day, only dropping a set to CYC Elite and coming 2nd overall in their pool.  The second day proved to be more challenging and the girls were knocked down to silver flight after losing a close (12-15) challenge match to NY Vikings Kapow.  In silver flight, Toronto Phoenix played beat the NY Vikings Remix in the quarterfinals but decided to end their run early, defaulting the next match, because of content issues among the team.

Toronto Phoenix would like to thank the organizing committee for providing us with a great end-of-the-summer tournament.  We’d also like to thank everyone who made this a successful summer for the club!   We hope that everyone has a great indoor season and we look forward to the 70th NACIVT in Las Vegas 2014!
